Great boutique hotel with a literary theme. Each floor has a different topic related to the dewey decimal classification. We were on the Philosophy floor. The included breakfast and welcome drinks are not fancy but make for a nice touch. They have a fun rooftop patio bar with nice views. The rooms are small, but typical size for New York. It has enough room for the essentials. They also offer the AFI Top 100 DVDs (and more) for free to watch in your room. Very nice touch! Great location near Bryant Park and Grand Central. Definitely a find!

The Distrikt is quite possibly the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in. The location isn’t the best in Manhattan, but it really isn’t bad. Convenient to Times Square and the Port Authority subway station (from which with a transfer or two can get you anywhere in Manhattan). The staff is very friendly and quite helpful. I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to stay at the Distrikt the next time I am in NYC. If you don’t mind the $350/night price tag, you would be well-served to consider it for your next stay.

This place reminds me of hotels in Europe. Everything is small, but small does not mean cramped or inefficient. The design is chic and modern and it really feels like a little oasis in the middle of Manhattan. Literally the middle – 44th street, which means bright lights, noise and theater district hustle. But my room was secluded, dark and quiet. I felt like I was at a spa (especially with the bath products) and the bed was so soft and feathery, I had a hard time waking up, which says a lot for this insomniac. The staff was friendly and helpful and the very best part of all? They tuck you in with chocolate chip cookies.
